Katarina Wit began skating at five. Her talent soon became obvious, and she gained entry into a school specifically designed for kids with a flair for sport in Karl-Marx-Stadt. In this school she got to know the teacher Jutta Muler. Witt was able to make her mark in the year 1982 when she placed second in the World Championships at Copenhagen. Following that, she started dominating the sport with her elegance and grace. Olympic Erfolg at Sarajevo, at the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for figure skating in women's after a fiercely contested contest. A few years later she was able to win an even tighter contest. Although she lost in the free-skating contest, gold was awarded for her performance on the compulsory figures as well as the short program. Witt became the first female multiple winner in figure skating following Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame After enjoying the success of an actress, Witt returned to the sport to compete at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. Fans were amazed by her, despite the fact that she only finished seventh. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
