Adults are humans or animals who have completed their developmental stage. For humans an adult's term has implications that are based on the legal and social world. As opposed to someone not considered an adult or "minor" legally adult has reached majority that makes them independent as well as responsible and competent. They may also be regarded as a "major". The age for achieving legally adulthood is 18 however, definitions can differ based on the legal rights of the country as well as the stage of psychological development.

Human development is the time that is when mental and physical maturity has been achieved. The term "adulthood" is generally considered to begin at the age of 20 or 21. Middle age, commencing approximately 40 years of age and is followed by the onset of old age at about 60 years old. There are three major levels of adulthood: early adulthood (18 until mid-30s) mid-adulthood (mid-30s through mid-60s), and late adulthood (mid-60s until end of life). When we reach early adulthood we have reached its full physical maturity. However, our height and our weight can rise. In the early years of adulthood, we attain the top of our physical ability.
